ABOUT RAY SALAZAR

Since 1995, Ray Salazar has been a public high-school English and journalism teacher in Chicago.  For over ten years, he wrote about education and Latino issues at the White Rhino Blog on ChicagoNow.com. 

In March 2013, his blog earned second place in the Best Blog category of the Education Writers Association's national writing contest.

Ray earned an M.A. in Writing, with distinction, and a B.A. in English and Secondary Education from DePaul University. He's been a National Board Certified Teacher for over ten years.

His writing aired on National Public Radio and Chicago Public Radio many times. He interviewed Sandra Cisneros, Jorge Ramos, and Julia Alvarez.

He’s written for Latino USA and Latino Rebels. His editorials appeared in many sources including the Chicago Tribune and on the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards' Web site.

Ray is experienced with providing professional development about curriculum development, writing across the curriculum, and culturally relevant teaching.

Having been the best man at three weddings, he’s pretty good at writing toasts. And he thoughtfully delivered his father’s eulogy during the pandemic.
